Our friends proclaimed the Gospel at our wedding! July 13th, 2019

Hello everyone!

It has been a while since I have posted, but there is a reason for it– I got married! I thought to make a quick post about it and how the Gospel was proclaimed. Unfortunately, my memory is a bit hazy, so I will only be able to give brief summaries. My prayer is that this is encouraging for all my brothers and sisters, and my hope is that you would be in prayer for all of those who attended. There were a lot of lost souls there; I am the only believer in my family (although most of them profess), and many of them were in attendance!

The Lord has blessed Zach and I with such wonderful friends who know Him. I was in such awe at how they have cared for us in this time and how they willingly served, especially in this way. Praise God for them!

Our officiant, Cal, shared the Gospel during the ceremony itself. This was something that Zach, Cal, and I had talked about at length during our premarital counseling. Most of the Christian weddings I had been to mentioned God’s love for us, but there was never an explicit Gospel message attached to it. Because of this, I often jokingly said “Preach ‘Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God’, and then say ‘kiss the bride’!”

I am so glad Pastor Cal didn’t do that.

Instead, he gave a defense for the faith in a gentle and respectful manner (1 Peter 3:15). I wish I had it taped! He began this presentation by telling our friends and family that the thing that drew us together and keeps us together is Jesus. Afterwards, he spoke about sin and how it is deserving of hell, Jesus’s life and what His sacrifice on the cross means for us, and then he gave a plea to the crowd for them to repent and believe in Christ.

We had the reception right after the ceremony, with speeches being very early on. Instead of letting just the maid of honor and best man speak, we allowed all of our bridal party to have the opportunity to specifically for the purpose of our brothers and sisters having the opportunity to proclaim God’s word.

I only had one bridesmaid who is a believer, Angie, and she was the first one to speak. She, too, told the crowd of our family and friends that Christ is what united Zach and I, as well as her and I. Then she was able to share her testimony, saying that she was a liar, blasphemer, thief, and adulterer at heart and deserving of an eternity in hell. She talked about how the Lord convicted her and saved her, and urged everyone to repent and believe.

Jared, Zach’s brother and best man, was next in the speech-giving festivities. He read John 17:23, and spoke very sweetly about how the world will know we are Christians by our conduct with each other and others.

After Jared, Patrick spoke. He read Ephesians 2:1-10 to everyone, saying that this was the full Gospel. Then he referenced Revelation 19 and the marriage supper of the Lamb, and how this wedding was only a shadow of what was to come when Christ returns. He then told everyone that they could be a part of this celebration if they repented and believed in Christ.

Philip, too, spoke about Christ in his speech for us. If I am being honest, I do not remember what he said (I was focusing too hard on trying not to cry!).

We also gave out Don’t Stub Your Toe Booklets as our wedding favors. Unfortunately, not many were taken. I saw my elderly grandfather with one, and so I ask that you pray that the Lord would save him during this limited amount of time that he has left.

Overall, this was the best day of my life! I am so thankful to the Lord that our friends and pastor proclaimed the gospel more than once. It gives me so much joy to know that seeds have been faithfully sown, and that God will choose to do what He will with them(Matt 13).  Please pray that God would grow these seeds! Even now,  weeks later, I long for friends and family members to be saved through the literature we distributed and words that were spoken. Please also pray for Zach and I: that we get more opportunities to pass out tracts with others, that we share the glorious Gospel with our coworkers and family, and that we would love each other in a Christ-like way.

Thank you so much for being patient with my slow blog posting schedule (if I can even call it that)! I am eager to post more often and interact with you brothers and sisters.

Lastly, for fun, here are a few pictures!
